Week 7: Artist Interview

3

Juliette Angulo

After looking at the galleries this week, Juliette really stuck out to me. Her story starts with her sister leaving to join the army which really inspired her work. The pain she felt as her sister was leaving was captured perfectly in her art. She told us how her sister would not be physically there so that was exactly how it was in her pictures. You could put anyone in the picture to represent your own story and that is what Angulo wanted. Though her relationship with her sister was rough for a while, it has become stronger with distance. These photos were taken over the past 2 years from her sisters time at base camp to her departure. She spent these year drive to where her sister was and back home. It was a long process but totally worth it. When I look at this art, I think of my boyfriend who is considering joining the marines. I would feel the same that Juliette shows in her pictures. I’m really inspired after seeing these photos and hope many other see the beauty in them.
